GoldStar Books - new books by new authors

Your manuscript could be a GoldStar paperback bookGoldStar paperback books written by new authors

Most new authors who have spent hours, weeks, months and years writing their story desperately want to see their work printed. Some only want a limited number of printed books they can pass on to friends and relatives; others want to hit the mass bookseller market.

We offer three options to cater for all needs:

GoldStar Premium Edition

Our top-of-the-range package is perfect for authors who have real faith in their writing and some spare cash to spend on high-quality production and promotion.

This package is designed for books that have truly marketable quality and you get:

  • full editorial advice and guidance that will raise your work to the optimum level for higher volume sales.
  • an ISBN number and a barcode.
  • a unique cover design.
  • six free copies are lodged with the legal deposit libraries, i.e. The British Library, the Bodleian Library (Oxford), Cambridge University Library, The National Library of Scotland, The Library of Trinity College (Dublin) and The National Library of Wales.
  • the book is registered in the Whittaker database and appears in the Neilson BookData list that is fed to major UK distributors.
  • your book is displayed in our Online eBookshop
  • you have a personal page on this website.
  • your work is promoted worldwide through the internet and will be seen by the visitors we get from all parts of the world.
  • independent bookshops are notified about our new releases.
  • we handle orders from book distributors and dealers.

All books published under our premium edition imprint are printed on offset-litho presses so the quality is somewhat higher than digitally-printed books and the unit cost is considerably lower. The minimum recommended print run is 1,000 copies and the cost of each book reduces even further if you order more copies.

We prepare complete estimates showing the actual costs and the savings offered by larger print runs.

GoldStar Economy Edition

This plan is designed for printing small volumes of paperbacks at low cost and is ideal for writers who want their work to be published without committing huge sums of money. This is what you get:

  • your manuscript is professionally edited
  • an ISBN number and a barcode.
  • a unique cover is designed.
  • at least 25 copies are digitally printed.
  • six free copies are lodged with the legal deposit libraries as above.
  • the book is registered in the same way as Premium books.
  • your book is displayed in our Online eBookshop
  • you have a personal page on this website.
  • your book is promoted worldwide through the internet.
  • two copies are held in our store to cover online sales for which we take 20% commission plus the transaction costs.
  • you get the remaining copies (at least 17) to sell personally.
  • the unit book cost for future print runs is determined at the outset and remains constant regardless of quantity - minimum 25; maximum 500.

When you submit a manuscript you will be given a precise estimate based on the word count together with the unit cost price for reprints which you can buy at any time in multiples of 25 copies.

Prices start at £435 for 25 copies of a 80,000 word book - 100 copies of the same book would cost less than £800. The reprint cost would be £4.50 per copy and the recommended sale price would be £6.99 though you can fix your own selling price.

You will find that our deal for 100 copies compares favourably with other publishers, some of whom will give you only five books for yourself.

GoldStar Personal Edition

This package is designed for authors who do not want to sell their books in the marketplace. For example, some authors just want to record their personal stories or memoirs for their friends and family and are happy to pay for a number of books they can hand out or leave for future generations.

This service may also appeal to groups of poets or writers who want to produce a non-commercial compendium of their works.

This plan is based on prices similar to the Economy Edition package above but the resulting books do not have an ISBN number or a barcode so there is an immediate saving of £60. If you are happy to accept a text only cover, or are prepared to provide your own, you will save a further £50.

What will you earn?

With any traditional or subsidy publishing deal, the publisher owns the book and you receive royalties which may be anything from 5% to 20%. With our publishing packages, you own the books. If you decide to sell them all yourself, then all the proceeds are yours.

If published by us, your book will almost certainly attract attention from major distributors and book sellers who will demand discounts ranging from 30 to 60%. This will increase your exposure at the expense of reduced personal earnings but you can still make money on a larger print run.
